About this concert
Poulenc’s brilliant imagination
An engaging evening (with two intermissions) featuring a diverse array of chamber music, duo sonatas, and songs by Francis Poulenc, showcasing the full breadth of Poulenc’s creative genius. Mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Levental performs portraits of six painters set to texts by surrealist Paul Éluard, as well as a dramatic scene about a woman who has lost her fortune gambling in Monte Carlo.
Compositions by Maurice Ravel and his mentor and inspiration Erik Satie also grace the programme. Bassoonist Bram van Sambeek performs Monologue, a piece by Korean composer Isang Yun, who studied in Paris and drew inspiration from Poulenc’s works for wind instruments. A total of six musicians, all ardent admirers of Poulenc’s music, take to the stage.
