Elisabeth Hetherington's star is rising fast. She is a dream interpreter of both early and new music, with a radiant voice and an equally lucid imagination that gives colour and meaning to every word she sings.
This wonderful programme takes us back to the eighteenth-century aristocratic salon, where people loved to listen to the successes of the opera house in their own homes. Many of the most popular opera arias of the day have been beautifully arranged for smaller ensembles.
Elisabeth Hetherington and Artem Belogurov, musical director of the baroque ensemble Postscript, have put together a colourful bouquet for a fine programme of quiet arias and, of course, extravagant vocal fireworks. Postscript is a pearl among the Dutch baroque ensembles. With musicians who also make a splash as soloists. An abridged version of this programme was one of the highlights of the last edition of the Early Music Festival.
