​The magical world of our youth

​At no time in our lives do we feel as one with nature as we do in our childhood. The salty smell of the sea, the sound of crickets and birds singing, the texture of tree bark, the azure of the sky. All our senses are still intimately connected. We are experiencing a world full of magic. The Romanian Georges Enescu evoked his childhood memories of nature in Impressions d'Enfan​ce for violin and piano, one of his finest works.

Claude Debussy captured the magical world of his youth in Syrinx, an ode to a mythical forest nymph, and La Mer, his three-part tribute to the sea, which Sally Beamish has brilliantly transformed into a piano trio. Philippe Gaubert's Aquarelles for flute, cello and piano is playful and magical.
